Minerva Owens (Campbell) W. J.'s wife
Found with other photos from Marion County, Ohio, including others of relatives of the the subject pictured here.

Found census records that tell quite a bit this young woman and her husband.

  • In the 1870 Census they were living in Montgomery Twp., Marion Co. Husband Wm. J.  Campbell was a "druggist," age 22, born in NY. Minerva was age 20, born in OH.
  • In the 1880 Census the couple was in La Rue, Marion Co., William J. was listed as an "apothecary," and they had one child, a 9-year-old daughter listed as "Bird," apparently a nickname, as subsequent census records for the daughter show that her name was Claudice Campbell. The couple had just the one child.
  • In the 1900 Census they were living alone in Marion Co. and their wedding year is indicated as 1868 - quite probably right around the time this CDV was made.
  • By the 1910 Census, Minerva was widowed and living with daughter Claudice Campbell Clifton and her husband Day D. Clifton, a banker, in Marion Co.

Earlier records for the Minerva Owens Campbell in this CDV show that she was the daughter of Hiram and Sarah ("Satira") Sprague Owens, of Montgomery Twp., Marion Co., OH.  She had a younger brother William ("Chesney") Owens and a much younger half-sister Eulalia Augusta Owens (by her father's second wife Jane Carey Owens).
