(Daughter of Adam & Mary Hain - b. c.  1853)

Census records for 1840 through 1880 show that this young woman was the daughter of Adam Hain and wife Mary Ann (she went by Ann or Anna), both born just after the War of 1812, he in PA and she in VA. They came to Marion Co. before 1840 and were married at least by 1838.They raised a family of 3 children on a farm in Pleasant Twp., near Marion, OH, the county seat of Marion Co., Ohio and were married over 40 years

 Daughter Mary E. in this CDV was their youngest child, born about 1853. She appears to be perhaps 13 or 14 years old in this photo, which would date the CDV to about 1867.

1840 Census - OH, Marion Co., Pleasant: Adam Hain, age 20-29, head of a household of 7 individuals (possibly heading up his birth family).

1850  Census - OH, Marion Co., Richland: Adam Hain, age 35, born in PA, "farmer"; with wife Mary Ann, age 31, born in VA; living with Comfort Ebbert, age 62, born in OH; and son Samuel, age 12 - born in OH.

1860 Census - OH, Marion Co., Pleasant: Adam Hain, age 46, born in PA, "farmer"; with wife Anna, age 45, born in VA; and children Samuel, age 21, "school teacher"; Eli A., age 17, "domestic"; Martha A., age 15; and Mary E., age 7.

1870 Census - OH, Marion Co., Pleasant: Adam Hain, age 56, born in PA, "farmer", with $8,000 in assets (more than most of his neighbors); with wife Ann, age 55, born in VA; and daughter Mary E., age 17. Note: The Hains were living adjacent to their son Samuel and his young family.

1880 Census - OH, Marion Co., Pleasant: Adam Hain, age 66, born in PA, "farmer"; with wife Anna F., age 65, born in VA, afflicted with "dropsy"; and Amanda Bach, age 18, "servant."
